Racism, Sexism, and Hannibal: Eat The Rude

Eat This

I’m an American actress and I play Beverly Katz on NBC’s HANNIBAL created by Bryan Fuller. (Spoiler Alert coming right now!!!) And she dies in episode 4 of Season 2. That episode got a lot of positive reviews, but it also incited an on-line storm of vitriol directed to Fuller himself for killing off Katz, or more specifically, for being racist and sexist. I caught wind of this myself via Twitter from our beloved Fannibals. And I thought maybe it’d be productive to talk about rather than ignore it.

Fuller cast me in a role that I didn’t think I had a chance in hell of getting. I rarely if ever see minorities, women, minority women, let alone Asian women, get to play characters like Beverly Katz. I rarely if ever see characters like Beverly Katz period. And her last name is Katz for Christ’s sake. Pretty open-minded, non-racist, pro-feminine…

The 17th Annual Webby Awards

Jane Kratochvil Photography / Blog

WebbyAwards_Cipriani2013_JKratochvil_8160I had the privilege of shooting The 17th Annual Webby Awards at Cipriani in New York City last night.  It was an amazing evening  (spending most of my time backstage) complete with hearing Colin Quinn whisper into Jerry Seinfeld’s ear before going onstage “Hey, what are your five words?” …  enduring Kevin Spacey yelling at me … and of course meeting the ever lo

vable Fred Armisen, a true gentleman!  More to come!

BPD Tackles Auto Theft

Better Baltimore

Gray clouds drift across the gloomy skies of Baltimore on a Tuesday morning as officers of the Baltimore City Police Department patrol their assigned districts. Rain falls in a gentle mist. On East Baltimore Street, water slowly drips off two flag poles protruding from a sand-colored building. Outside, police cars are lined up diagonally along the sidewalk. And inside is the headquarters for the Baltimore City Police Department.

As rain continues to hit the glass doors leading into the building, an employee of the department’s office staff sits quietly at a counter behind a booth. Two dark green-cushioned benches rest against the wall adjacent to the booth. All that is heard is the pitter-patter of raindrops and the occasional telephone call with an officer request. Former Chief of Process and Transport Pamela Johnson says that the city police office environment does not differ much from that of the county offices.

My Movies and TV shows

My Movies and TV shows

All of the movies and tv shows I enjoy watching. Not all my choices are there but the majority are in it.
I enjoy watching shows and movies that captivate my interest and don’t bore me to death. I’m not such a fan of Reality show but I do have a couple that I watch in occasions. For example, The Celebrity Apprentice, The Amazing Race, America’s Got talent , Survivor , Top chef and several more.

However, my keen interest are dramas, police procedurals, comedies and one exception of a horror show like Bates Motel.
As well, I support the Broadway business like Playbill and the Old Vic Theater that really showcase amazing and talented performers and actors/actress.

In any case, what makes me watch all these selection is in all due credit to the writers and cast who create and deliver amazing performance & or story that really pull you in and make you feel the experience that they want to convey to the audience.
For that reason, watching tv shows and movies for me is not just for the fun of watching but its really to have an experience with all the various characters and themes that the medium tries to convey to us viewers. 🙂

Anyways, that’s my take!:)
